How to Complete This Transcript

Step 1 — Identify your state's requirements. Most states require homeschoolers to maintain academic records but do not prescribe a specific format. Some states (e.g., Ohio, Pennsylvania) require annual assessments or portfolio reviews. Check HSLDA (hslda.org) for your state's specific rules before graduating your student.
Step 2 — Assign course names that colleges will recognize. Use standard course names: "English Language Arts 9" not "Language Exploration." Colleges compare your transcript to standard ones. Aurora curriculum strands map to standard courses as follows:
Language Arts + Rhetoric = English Language Arts
Mathematics = Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Statistics
Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Earth Science = Science with lab
Black World Studies + History + Civics + Geography = World History, U.S. History, Government/Economics
Arabic/French/Spanish/Swahili/Yoruba = World Language (Year 1, 2, etc.)
Computer Science = Computer Science / Introduction to Programming
Financial Architecture = Personal Finance / Economics
Step 3 — Document hours and work. Keep a dated learning log, the Aurora Progress Tracker worksheet, graded assignments, or a portfolio. 150 hours = 1 credit. Date everything. Store documentation for 7 years minimum.
Step 4 — Calculate GPA. Add all quality points. Divide by total credits attempted. Round to two decimal places. If you awarded honors designations, recalculate a "weighted GPA" using the +0.5 quality point values.
Step 5 — Sign and date the transcript. A parent/administrator signature is what makes this document official. Notarize if your state requires it or if a college requests it. Keep the original — submit copies.
